Former IT Analyst from Stockport Becomes Seventh £1 Million Winner on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire

Roman Dubowski Wins £1 Million on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire

Roman Dubowski, a former IT analyst from Stockport, has become the seventh contestant in the history of ITV’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? to claim the top prize of £1 million — celebrating his win not with champagne, but with a quiet cup of tea.

A Shaky Start, A Composed Finish

Dubowski’s path to the jackpot was far from smooth. He required the audience’s help to answer a £1,000 question about mayonnaise, and later phoned his sister to secure the £4,000 answer. Despite the early stumbles, the self-described quiz fanatic steadily composed himself and powered through the remaining questions.

Host Jeremy Clarkson looked on as Dubowski kept his nerve at every stage, deploying a deliberate, methodical approach throughout the game.

The Million-Pound Question

The decisive question asked which trademark logo, registered since 1876, had appeared in James Joyce’s Ulysses and in works by both Picasso and Manet. Dubowski used his 50-50 lifeline before answering correctly: Bass Ale.

“It’s because of the painting,” he told Clarkson, explaining that he had recalled a Manet canvas featuring the beer’s distinctive red triangle. Clarkson responded: “That is fantastic. Yes! A million pounds. Enjoy it.”

Strategy and Composure

Dubowski attributed his success to a disciplined mental approach. “One of my strategies was to stay calm and not rush — to speak slowly and think things through rather than jump at an answer,” he said. “I could picture the barmaid and, crucially, the red triangle of Bass beer in the image.”

Life After the Win

The new millionaire has since grown a goatee beard in a low-key attempt to avoid being recognised in public and pestered for money. He has nonetheless pledged to buy drinks for his quiz teammates the following Thursday — a modest gesture consistent with the understated manner in which he collected one of British television’s most coveted prizes.
