A Father Killed on a Wolverhampton Street: Two Men Charged as Community Mourns Brad Thomas
On the evening of Sunday, 5 July, Brad Thomas — a 27-year-old father described by those who knew him as “one of a kind” — was found critically injured on Clarence Street in Wolverhampton. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A knife had been used. No further ambiguity surrounds the manner of his death.
His family released a statement in the immediate aftermath, describing Thomas as a “loving son, father and brother” whose absence would be felt by everyone who had known him. “He will be missed by all his friends and family,” they said. “Our boy.” The words are plain and carry the particular weight of grief that has no use for ornament.
On social media, tributes accumulated in the days that followed. Elisabeth Roberts wrote on Facebook: “RIP. A true family friend. His smile, I will always remember. Sending love and prayers to the whole of his family. Gone far too soon. Totally heartbreaking.” Carolyn Hough, noting she had a son of similar age, offered condolences with the quiet acknowledgement that no words adequately address such a loss. West Midlands Police moved swiftly. Joseph Wills Jr, 37, has been charged with the murder of Brad Thomas and with possession of a bladed article. Joseph Wills Snr, 65, has been separately charged with assisting an offender. Both men were remanded in custody and appeared before Wolverhampton Magistrates’ Court on 7 July. A man and a woman also arrested in connection with the investigation have since been released on bail, according to a force spokesperson.
The investigation remains active.
