Northern Ireland Boiler Specialist G.W. Monsons Enters Liquidation After 47 Years in Business

G.W. Monsons and Sons Limited, a commercial boiler specialist headquartered in Newtownards, Northern Ireland, has entered liquidation after nearly five decades in operation, joining a growing number of UK plumbing firms facing financial collapse.

Winding-Down Process Underway

The company, incorporated on March 18, 1977, began its winding-down process on May 16. The process is expected to last approximately three months.

A final annual meeting is scheduled for 10am on June 23 at the offices of Lecale Corporate Finance and Restructuring Limited, 50 Stranmillis Embankment, Belfast.

According to The Gazette, the meeting will result in either the approval of the liquidator’s final report and receipts and payments account, or the formal release of the liquidator.

The precise number of employees affected by the closure has not been disclosed.

Wider Pressures Across the Sector

The collapse of G.W. Monsons is not an isolated case. Centurion Plumbing Services Ltd, based in Muir of Ord in the Scottish Highlands, reportedly ceased trading on March 31, with cashflow pressures cited as the primary cause.

The closure of Centurion is believed to have cost at least ten workers their jobs, underscoring the human cost of mounting financial difficulties across the UK plumbing and heating sector.
